You’d have to be pretty picky to accuse the Ford Focus RS of lacking grip.
Its clever Twinster all-wheel drive system combined with torque vectoring offers almost total traction, however Ford Europe clearly feels there is more to be found, revealing details of a new option pack aimed at further sharpening its dynamics.
The main mechanical modification is the addition of a Quaife mechanical limited-slip front differential, which is able to distribute power to the front wheel with greater traction in slippery conditions, allowing the full 257kW/470Nm to be put to the ground regardless of the road surface.
Leo Roeks, the newly-appointed Performance Director of Ford Europe, says “the additional mechanical grip offered by the Quaife LSD will make it even easier to carry speed through a corner on the track, and maximise acceleration on the way out.
“The new setup also delivers greater mechanical stability and control when braking hard, and will help drivers set the car up for power-slides using Drift Mode.”
The Focus RS option pack also includes the 19-inch lightweight forged alloy wheels, which locally come wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. Cosmetic enhancements include matte black roof, mirror caps and rear spoiler with blue RS logos on the side wings, while the Recaro shell seats have Nitrous Blue leather applications installed.
Unfortunately, no European pricing has yet been announced, and Ford Australia will only say that "The Focus RS Option Pack is something that we will look at for the Australian market." So if you’re keen on an even sharper Focus RS, you’d best pick up the phone and make your interest known.
