The global demand for fatter, heavier, faster SUVs is showing no signs of slowing and the various manufacturers are responding with lots more choice. This week alone, Mercedes revealed not one but three high-performance SUVs, along with Aston Martin’s foray into the segment and one from Audi.

But everyone seems to be ignoring the looming corporate average fuel economy standards and carbon emissions standards that will soon shrink to just 100g per kilometre. The WhichCar Weekly team discuss what has to give.

Making his WCW debut this week, Simon ‘Telfo’ Telford is inducted into the fellowship of the podcast to review Drag Challenge 2019, and reveal exactly how Dan didn’t die at the wheel of his supercharged Camaro.

By road-car standards, the ZL1 is a monstrous machine but it was not in the company of regular road cars as we know them. Telf explains all the details from the most challenging drag competition in Australia.

Rounding out the show this week, the subject turns from excess to frugality without compromise. Dan and Scott have spent some time in Honda’s game-changing NSX and it’s time to chat about its role – both in Honda’s ranks as well as in the broader automotive landscape.
