SHEPPARTON madman Harry Haig has been with Street Machine Drag Challenge since the first event, getting it done in a ratty HQ Holden sedan wearing the plates POP666. Under the bonnet is a big block Chev with EFI and a big single turbo. Harry repainted the car in HQ SS colours for last year’s event and dubbed it the Shonky SS in honour of the late Craig Brewer, who was instrumental in helping Harry tame down the HQ’s wild launches.

Teaming up with Terry Seng, Harry and his mates plugged a new twin-turbo BBC into his rusty Chevelle in less than a week and then managed to complete Drag Week with an average of 8.95-seconds.

Sure, Harry is still sitting in third place in Turbosmart Outlaw Blown, but there have been a few obstacles along the way, including a buggered roller lifter at Mildura Sunset Strip today. Harry and his team – with a big help from Robbie Abbott – managed to get the car to the staging lanes with just five minutes left to run a number. The HQ ran a respectable 6.5 to keep Harry in the running in day four, at the new Swan Hill quarter mile strip today.
