HARRY’S Diner in the Brisbane suburb of Windsor has long been a favourite cruise destination for car fiends of all stripes.

The crackdown on hoons in Queensland hasn’t made it easy in recent times, so local street machiner Tony Webb started a series of old school-only nights at Harry’s, working with the constabulary to ensure a hassle-free experience.

With Christmas fast approaching, the local Bob Jane T-Mart floated the idea of working together with Tony on a night to help support the Smith Family Kids Christmas Appeal, and last Friday night it all which went off spectacularly.

Tony arranged for some of Brisbane’s toughest street machines to be at the event. He had them trailered to a spot nearby, unloaded and then cruised into Harry’s, much to the delight of the crowd on hand. They then lapped the car park every half an hour!

And we’re talking about some tough cars, including Joel Halse’s CALLOUT ’55 Chev, Jed Sladden’s twin-turbo Hemi-powered Valiant and Joe Laspina’s notorious ’69 Dodge Charger.

The result was three Bob Jane T-Mart utes filled to the brim with donated toys and books, plus $1000 in cold hard cash from those who wanted to give that little bit more.

The Webby’s Old School events are held the first and third Friday of each month at Harry’s Diner, 104 Newmarket Rd, Windsor, from 5.30pm, and every second Sunday at Hog’s Breath Café, Aspley.
