GALLERY: STREET CRUISE TAKES OVER GEELONG

Inaugural Geelong Revival street cruise proves to be a cracker

THE GEELONG Revival Motoring Festival is a new take on the famous Geelong Speed Trials that have been tearing up the waterfront of G-Town since 1965.

This year the organisers added a street cruise to the program on the Friday night, with 445 official entrants taking to the streets. These included a bunch of tough street cars, but also featured such oddities as a steam-powered truck and a single-cylinder 1904 Oldsmobile.

Event Director Nicholas Heath was stoked with the result: “We got much bigger numbers than we expected. For the first time it was an experiment, so we’ll tweak it for next year. We’ll definitely start later in the evening to avoid the tail-end of peak hour.”

Despite the traffic congestion, there were plenty of appreciative punters lining the cruise route and we reckon that with time, the Revival cruise will build up to be as impressive as the Summernats City Cruise or the Cooly Rocks street parade.
