THE annual Chopped Rod and Custom festival, held in the Victorian town of Newstead each October, has become a must-do pilgrimage for those who like their automotive fun on the dirty side.

The show has no trophies, no PA and the only thing resembling a structure is a schedule for the bands. The town itself has neither an ATM, nor a working service station, but nevertheless pre-1965, traditionally-styled rods, customs, bikes and drag cars come from all corners of the land to cruise, hang out and do laps of the dirt drag strip.

More visitors come from overseas each time, this year including custom car godfather Gene Winfield, pinstriper Doug Dorr and Piero De Luca of Mad Fabricators Society fame. We’ll have a full feature on this year’s show in the December issue of Street Machine. For more info, check out www.chopped.com.au
