Nik Rigby Memorial Car Show

The Sydney car community bands together to celebrate a fallen comrade

ON THE beautiful Sunday morning of 20 October, a group of like-minded car enthusiasts gathered together in North West Sydney to celebrate the life of the late Nikolas Rigby. Nikolas was loved by all in the burnout scene, having thrown around his blown MELTEM Corolla in the likes of the Street Machine Summernats 32 Burnout Championship, among many other events.

Around 60 cars attended the Nik Rigby Memorial Car Show at the Bligh Park Tavern in South Windsor, organised by the Rod2Mod car club to raise some much-needed funds for Nik’s family. The mixture of metal on display was extensive, with everything from rat trucks and hot rods through to old-school muscle and burnout cars, all competing for the 25 or so trophies up for grabs.

The big winner of the day was Zoran Krstevski and his immaculately presented XE Falcon; he took out Best Street Ford, Best Street Custom, Best Paint and the highly coveted People’s Choice award.

A close second was Ben Samaras in his very tough little LJ Torana. Ben and the Torana won Best Street Holden, Best Engine Bay and Best Naturally Aspirated.

The centrepiece of the show was the massive auction and raffle, which ended up raising over $4200. The main prize on offer was a mega deal consisting of Street Machine Summernats 33 platinum passes, a backstage invite to meet Shannon Noll and Airbourne, and a ride with YouTube-famous Yank Cleetus McFarland in his blown Camaro down Tuff Street and Skid Row.

Other auction prizes included burnout car ride-alongs for both Summernats 33 and a Sydney burnout test ’n’ tune in November, as well as Summernats 33 Tuff Street and Skid Row rides in Jake Myers’s S1CKO Mustang, Fred Watson’s FEAR Monaro and Jamie Cairney’s 2NASTY HQ Tonner ute. Props to all the boys for supporting a great cause!
