This year's Picnic at Hanging Rock Show was a cracker

HOSTED by the Macedon Ranges & District Historic Car Club, the annual Picnic at Hanging Rock Show is one of the best outdoor shows in Victoria.

The only downside of the dramatic location (also where the film of the same name was shot) is that the event has suffered or even been cancelled in previous years due to excess rain or heat. Not so this year – the conditions were great and car owners turned out in droves.

There are always some cool former Street Machine feature cars in attendance. This year’s lot included Rob Velkovski’s stunning Nissan-powered LX Torana hatch

And old favourite turned up too – Darren Condy’s XA Fairmont wagon, now sporting steelies and hubcaps instead of the classic Convo Pros.

We didn’t get to catch up with the owner of this Corolla, but we’re intrigued to learn what kind of bent eight is jammed under the bonnet.

And we dug this four-door, XU1-style LJ Torana! Built in a very 80s-style that reminds us of our youth. Not that those big-inch Sprintmaster-type rims were available back then. There are some more pics of it in the gallery, including the stove-hot red motor.

And how evil is this murdered-out VK?

And finally, it is always a treat to see the T-Special – a roadster built as a John’s Picnic Raffle car back in 2001, in memory of the late Tina Katsanis.
