SUMMERNATS GRAND CHAMPION ON TODAY TONIGHT – VIDEO

Summernats 30 Grand Champion Mark ‘Happy’ Williams and his HQ one-tonner featured on Perth’s Today Tonight

HATS off to the folks at Channel Seven in Perth, who have celebrated local lad Mark ‘Happy’ Williams’s Grand Champion win at Street Machine Summernats 30 with a Today Tonight segment. The show had a big hit with its coverage of Chris Bitmead’s XBOSS Falcon last year – how good is it to see mainstream media celebrating the achievements of local modified car crafters?

The footage was shot at Perth Motorplex the day before Motorvation 31, during the Street Machine photo shoot for Happy’s HQ one-tonner, with our photographer Jordan Leist scoring a cameo appearance as well. Happy treated the reporter to a tyre-melting powerskid that went quite some way past half-track – it seems the ProCharged and intercooled small-block is going to test out the tonner’s traction when it comes time for Happy to run some numbers down the quarter-mile.

It has been a hectic few weeks for Happy, towing the car from Perth to Canberra, doing Summernats, trucking the car home and cleaning the considerable grime it picked up both at the ’Nats and on the back of Happy’s open trailer. Luckily Street Machine feature car owner and pro detailer Johnny Ielati was on hand to help get the car back up to scratch. It has been a busy month for Johnny too, as he also helped Chris Bitmead and team prepare XBOSS for both Summernats and the Victorian Hot Rod Show.

With our cover shoot done, Happy toasted the tyres as promised at Motorvation, then cleaned up the tonner yet again for our all-night feature shoot. That done, it was back to work for Mark.

Look out for the full story on the tonner in the March issue of Street Machine.
