WHAT’S ON THIS WEEKEND

Street Machine's guide to the best car events happening around the country this weekend

THE big one this weekend is the Queenscliff Rod Run in Victoria, hosted by the Geelong Street Rodders. The event runs from Friday to Sunday at the Queenscliff Recreational Reserve, with cruising on Saturday and a show ’n’ shine on Sunday. Saturday involves a cruise around the Geelong area and in the evening the main street will be shut down so that entrants can continue cruising. There will also be live bands and entertainment to help rock the night away. Car entries have already closed, but anyone can be a spectator for $5.

57 Chev DoorslammerOver on the west coast, the 400 Thunder drag racing series hits the Perth Motorplex this weekend as Pro Slammer and Pro Alcohol weapons take to the quarter-mile for the 45th Westernationals. John Zappia, Peter Kapiris, Gary Phillips and Craig Glassby are just some of the names you can expect to see on track. Racing is from 4:30pm on Friday and 1pm Saturday and spectator entry costs $35 for adults.

Holden Monaro PROPWR Brewer NwBack in Victoria, this Sunday is the Bass Coast Craig Brewer Memorial Show ’n’ Shine at the Grantville Recreation Reserve. A cruise has also been organised for anyone keen to drive in convoy to the event, leaving from the Calder Park inbound BP service station at 9am and stopping to pick up more cars from the Cranbourne Bunnings at 9:30am before heading to Grantville for the show.

Holden Ute Blown BurnoutThis Saturday from 1pm, the SS Owners Club will be in Apollo Bay, Victoria for a club display with over 100 cars attending. The club will be running a raffle full of prizes to help raise funds for the Apollo Bay and Wye River CFA, so if you’re in the area get down and check out some cool SS Holdens.

Holden Calais BurnoutThe Madaz Burnouts series kicks off at Willowbank Raceway in Queensland on Saturday. Gates open at 10am, with the smoke show starting at 12pm. It will cost $50 to compete for the day or $20 to spectate. Following the burnouts will be a test ’n’ tune session that night. Gates open at 4pm, with the action kicking off from 4:30pm. It costs $45 to race, $20 to spectate and you can bring a passenger in your car for $20 too.

Hot Rod RunIn South Australia, the Southern Rod Runners club is hosting the inaugural Southern Vale Rod Run in McLaren Vale all weekend. Similar to the Queenscliff Rod Run in Victoria, this event will include plenty of cruising around the SA Fleurieu Peninsula, and a public show ’n’ shine on Sunday at the McLaren Vale Sporting Complex.

57 Chev CoupeAnother one in South Australia on this Sunday is the annual Super Chevys car show in Seaton. The show is open to all types of Chevrolet vehicles, from classics to hot rods, racecars and daily drivers. Show entry costs $15 and it is $5 to spectate.

Willys Pick UpAcross the ditch in Tasmania, the Huon Aquaculture Wheels in the Park car and bike show is on this Sunday in Geeveston. There’s no entry forms required, so just rock up on the day with your car or bike and you could be a trophy winner!

HR Holden Turbo LSIn New South Wales they’re celebrating the 50th birthday of the legendary HR Holden on Saturday at the Cessnock City Motor Group. The show is open to all classic Holdens and the cars will be arriving from 8am.

Ford Falcon Wagon RatterThe Toowoomba Swap Meet is also on this Saturday and Sunday at the Toowoomba Showgrounds, and it promises to be huge. Event organisers reckon every site in the whole place has been booked, so it could be the South East Queensland town’s biggest swap meet yet.
