Steve Poulton talks about his very cool, old-school cruiser HQ
This article on Steve's HQ was originally published in the March issue of Street Machine
“SINCE I was little, I always went to car shows with Dad and my love of cars grew from that. I always wanted an old-school cruiser, and I found this HQ in Cranbourne when it was for sale from an older bloke. It was finished back in 2010 and has been a good and reliable car to this day.
The motor is a Holden 308 with 355 heads, Pacemaker tri-Ys, Edelbrock Performer manifold, Pro Systems 700 carb and MSD distributor.
The donk is backed by a Trimatic auto with a 2400 converter and a nine-inch rear end with 3.5 gears and 31-spline axles. Pedders springs and shocks in the front and Pedders springs with Koni shocks at the rear give it a little stiffness, and it rolls on Center Line Auto Drags.
The HQ bench seat makes it possible to roll three-deep, with the column-shift allowing some extra floorspace.
Paint is Dublin Green with a white roof; the green absolutely bursts in the sun. Big thanks to Speed Pro and Competition Engines.”
