STREET Machine photographer and all-round good guy Rick Welch has a couple of neat rides, one being a HR Holden sedan that is a regular at Warwick Dragway’s Six Banger Nats, as well as a VE GTS as his daily driver. His pride and joy, though, is his HQ GTS Monaro.

WEB HQ GTS 1 Nw“MY HQ GTS started life as a Glacier White Kinga six-banger. I found it in 2010 in Dalby, Western Queensland as a roller for $3K. Once I had it, it was booked in for a coat of Barbados Green, the interior was sent to the trimmers for some houndstooth, and I started the search on eBay and Gumtree for all the hard-to-find bits.

WEB HQ GTS 2 Nw“It’s now powered by a 383ci SBC, and I’m using a B&M T400, 3500 stall and a Strange Truetrac nine-inch. I wanted to keep a stock look with an aggressive street attitude, and I couldn’t be happier with the finished job. Massive thanks to Terry of Paramount Automotive & Performance, Chris of Evans Trim Shop and Jason Seng for advice and letting me steal measurements off his Q!”
