“IN MID-2013 I purchased this 2001 VX off Dan Brett, who had already extensively modified the car with a custom paintjob, 403ci stroker motor, big brakes and wheels. I initially vowed to leave it as-is and just enjoy it; that lasted a while until Motorvation 28, where it copped a bit of damage.
I contemplated a colour change, so I stripped the car back to a bare shell and started again. My good mate Aaron Canfora shaved the bay and we fixed the damage to the bumpers before it was painted in the awesome House Of Kolor Kandy Red with some PPG Ruby Slippers thrown over the top. I added the Intro billets for some extra bling, and got a billet steering wheel for the interior along with a B&M shifter fitted to the TH400 ’box.
George and Simon at Blown Motorsports gave the engine a new lease on life, switching it over to methanol and adding the tunnel-ram with the twin carbies. I didn’t want a blower, as I still drive the car on the street when I get a chance.
Adam and Cara from Cronic Customs did all the specialised fitting of parts, completed the fuel system and fabricated the exhaust. The final part was the wiring, carried out by another good mate, Tom Scale.
I have won a few trophies over the past year, but it wasn’t really built for that – I just wanted a cool car that my family could enjoy.”
