Bargain hunters were out in force at last night’s Shannons classic car auction held in Melbourne, bringing in solid prices and a high clearance rate of the 79 lots on offer.

As we previewed last week, classic Aussie and American Muscle cars were well represented in the line up, mixed among an extensive range of euros, rag tops, motorcycles and memorabilia. Here’s the results of some of the gems we were keeping a keen eye on, as well as a few other standouts from the night that are worth a mention.

Holden HK MonaroOur top pick of the bunch was this 1968 Holden Monaro HK GTS 327 coupe with just 98,803 miles on the clock. Unfortunately a final bid of $164,000 wasn’t enough to secure this beauty, just falling short of its $170,000-$220,000 estimate.

Holden HQ monaroThis Aquamarine metallic 1974 Holden HQ GTS 308 Monaro manual coupe sold for $94,000, well above its $65,000-$75,000 estimate.

Chrysler VH ChargerWe loved this 1972 VH 770 Charger fitted with the 318 Chrysler V8, which was bought for $77,000.

Holden HZ PremierAn enthusiastic bid of $10k in one hit secured this 1978 Holden HZ Premier 4.2 V8 sedan, bought for a dizzying $35,000.

Ford Falcon XA GTOne of our favourite picks of the Blue Oval classics was this Yellow Fire 1973 Ford Falcon XA GT sedan which sold for $66,000. We were also keeping an eye on a gold 1969 XT GT, which sold for a solid $62,000.

Leyland P76Another Aussie V8 classic up for grabs was this 1973 Leyland P76 Super Sedan fitted with a four-speed manual. Listed with a guiding range of $8000-$10,000 and no reserve, this piece of Aussie motoring history sold for $12,500.

corvette roadsterThis survivor 1956 Chevy Corvette roadster is definitely a standout, still in original condition and with just 34,597 miles on the clock. It went under the hammer for $89,000.

bmw e30 m3Some very desirable Euros were in the lineup including a Porsche 930 Turbo coupe (sold for $119,000) and this LHD BMW E30 M3 dressed in Salmon Silver Metallic which in contrast seems like a bargain, selling at $65,000.
