Vic High Country tracks re-open in time for summer news

Most High Country tracks re-open, but some remain closed.

THOSE looking to get their tyres dirty this weekend are in for a treat, as most of the roads in the Victorian High Country that were closed during the cooler months will re-open today (November 1) to the public.

However, not all tracks will re-open. Parks Victoria advised that “Bluff Track between Lovicks and King Billy will remain closed as it is still blocked by deep snow and will remain closed until snowmelt”. The track will be blocked until it’s in a suitable condition; in the meantime four-wheelers are advised to use alternative routes, such as Brocks Road.

Tracks are normally closed from the long weekend in June until the end of October for a number of reasons: to keep the tracks safe, to minimise track damage and corrosion (as rain and snow softens the tracks), and to maintain water quality. Parks Victoria dishes out steep fines for any travellers driving on closed tracks.

However, now that the warmer weather is upon us, it’s a great time to explore one of Australia’s great off-road destinations.

A list of seasonal road closures can be found here.

Safe travels!
