Kent Battle’s XD is an old-school Falcon with new-school grunt

FORD’S Barra engine is the new in-thing. While LS mills are still a favourite for the GM crew, the Barra is quickly becoming Australia’s go-to engine for seriously big power at a budget cost.

Kent Battle has had a fair bit of experience with Barra mills, initially in his old BA Falcon ute that went 8.9s, before he decided an XD was more to his liking.

Ford XD Falcon“The XD is the ugliest sort of Falcon behind the AU, so I found this one cheap locally for $1200 with no rust and went from there,” Kent says.

The car then got a Barra transplant, along with a rollcage, suspension renovation and so on, running a best of 8.0@172mph. It was brutally quick until the old block split, so the boys started again.

“The new engine is built by Brinks Performance using Atomic parts, with a 6boost manifold and Garrett GTX5020 turbo,” Kent says.

The rest of the driveline is made up of a Brinks Performance Powerglide with a Dominator converter. The Link ECU was tuned by X-Treme Motorsport, and the boys are shooting for a four-second pass down the eighth-mile with the new package.
