THE brainchild of NSW hot rodding royalty Tony ‘Webby’ Webster and Stewart ‘Soup’ Campbell, the annual Mud Run held at the Gresford Showgrounds, about an hour north of Newcastle, is one of our favourite shows around. Our Classic Car Hunter checks it out, thanks to Ryno Insurance.

It’s a laidback, invite-only affair where hot rods, customs and bikes get to do the sideways wild thing on a damp track, without too many rules or regulations. In fact, the main rule is to have fun!

The annual Mud Run Gresford ShowgroundsScrutineering is simple: You’ll need a helmet and seatbelts, a working throttle return spring, a decent brake pedal, and the battery and fuel tank should be secure. Apart from that, it is run what you brung!

The Mud RunBesides the sideways action on the track, the Mud Run deals up some cracking live music, kids’ events and plenty of fire drums to facilitate night-time bench racing. Simples!

Mud Run Devil Car ClubNote: While GT describes the Mud Run as a Devils Car Club event in the video, that isn’t strictly the case. The show is put on by an independent committee, although many of the Devils do chip in each and every year to make it happen.

Well done to all the volunteers who move heaven and earth to make sure everyone who attends has a fun and safe time.
