IT MAY not have been the quickest car during the Australian Pro Street Association meeting at Benaraby, but Daniel List’s 1970 Chevy Nova is pretty damn quick, and check out those wheelstands!

The 23-year-old has been racing since he was just 10, when he started off in Junior Dragster. From there he progressed to the family Torana, and now he’s steering this wicked 632ci big block-powered Nova.

“We imported it from Wisconsin in the States about five years ago,” Daniel says. “It had a 468ci big-block with a hit of gas and it still had street rego when we bought it. Recently we’ve upgraded to an all-motor TRE 632 engine. The dyno sheet says it makes 1250hp, and we need all of that because the car weighs 3600lb. It’s run 8.87@151mph on the quarter-mile so far, but we’re still chasing the four-link set-up.”

Running in Pro Street Unblown, the Nova seems to have no trouble hooking up, but keeping the front end down seems to be a bit more problematic. Check out some of these wild launches from last weekend, where Daniel came runner-up in the final to the ultra-consistent Chris Stevermuer. The car’s getting plenty of altitude over the first 100 feet or so. Racing was run over the eighth-mile for this meeting.

“It was our first time racing in Pro Street Unblown,” Daniel says. “We believe we can be competitive once the car is sorted. My old man has a full-chassis Nova that’s about 900lb lighter, and my sister runs the Torana now, while Mum and my wife run around like crazy crewing for us. Drag racing is definitely a family affair for us.”
