SUPERCHARGED HSVs aren’t anything new since the release of the 430kW GTS with its factory supercharged 6.2-litre LSA engine.

The LSA is a great motor with plenty of potential but it’s held back by its relatively small roots-type supercharger.

When talking positive displacement blowers nothing beats a screw supercharger. Magnuson, Whipple and Autorotor are just a few that we’ve seen bolted atop LS-series Holdens. They make great power when combined with water-to-air intercoolers, as seen here on this silver VE GTS from Automotive Performance Specialists.

If you don’t feel like pausing the video we’ll give you a rundown of what’s under the bonnet. It’s running a stock stroke 6.2-litre LS3 with Manley rods and Mahle forged pistons. The Trickflow 235cc heads have been decked out with titanium retainers and Manley valve springs, and a custom APS-spec Howards cam determines the duration and lift.

From the sound of things it’s big and lumpy. But the most important bit is the Yella Terra-spec 2.9-litre Whipple supercharger and water-to-air intercooler. Tuned to run on E85 ethanol the set-up punches out over 700hp to the treads and pretty close to 1000hp at the engine.

That’s pretty insane, and with the car sporting a tricked up 6L80E transmission it would be a blast to drive on the street. HSV GTS with 1000hp? We just want one!
