THE guys at Shannons in Melbourne are having a big classic car auction next Monday 19 February, and there’s some seriously nice old-school metal up for grabs.

Perhaps second only to the 1988 Suzuki Mighty Boy in terms of desirability is this 1968 HK GTS Monaro 327 coupe. It comes with all the original service manuals and glovebox books and has travelled just 98,802 miles since new. It’s expected to rake in somewhere between $170,000 and $220,000.

If your budget doesn’t quite stretch that far, you might be more tempted by this HQ Monaro GTS 308 manual coupe. It was resprayed in its original Aquamarine four years ago, while the interior has had a freshen-up and the 308 and four-speed have been rebuilt too. The car is expected to go for between $65,000 and $75,000.

The other big standout car for us is this ’56 Chevy Corvette. This car is an untouched survivor that has just 34,597 miles on the clock. It’s completely unrestored, with cracked paint and a few blemishes here and there, but we’d leave it as is – they don’t get much more original than this!

Back to the Aussie metal; we really dug this ’72 VH 770 Charger 318. This car appears to have been restored fairly recently and presents extremely well, almost like it just rolled off the production line. It’s finished in the original Russet colour with cream interior and equipped with the 318 Chrysler V8.

For the Ford guys, there’s a few Aussie Blue Oval classics set to go under the hammer. Our pick was the four-speed XT GT Falcon, but there’s also an XA GT, a restored Fairlane and a late-model FPV Cobra.

If Euro cars are your thing, there are plenty of goodies on offer, with everything from a Morris Mini to a bug-eye Sprite and a couple of Porsches. The left-hook BMW E30 M3 got us frothing, as did the Porsche 911 930 Turbo coupe.
