THE boys from CAD Custom in Melbourne unveiled a killer ’66 Chevy Impala at Summernats this year, where it cleaned up the silverware in the Top 60 hall. Built for Glenn Southern, the car was awarded 2nd Top Interior, Top Bodywork, Top Standard Paint, Top Sedan, and the big one, Top Judged Street.

The Chev took around 18 months to build and it was a mad rush to get it finished in time for the ’Nats, so the CAD team and owner Glenn were ecstatic with the result.

The car has a standard Impala body, but CAD Custom has made subtle improvements to make all the panels fit better and flow nicer, with sharper lines. The interior was done by The Trim Shop in Melbourne, where the guys did a stunning job, covering everything in brown leather. Plus the car has modern features like air con and USB ports.

The engine is a big-block pumping out around 850hp, but Glenn wanted a tough street car that could cruise to and from the track and still run decent numbers, so it also has upgraded suspension, big brakes and fat rubber wrapped around a set of 18-inch steelie-style billet rims.

We caught up with Carmine De Maria from CAD Custom at the Victorian Hot Rod Show last month to chat about this gorgeous ’66 Impala.
