GRAHAM Cowley’s HR ute is a genuine street machine survivor. Built over 30 years ago, it not only retains its signature flip front and wagon rear conversion, but still wears the same paint and runs the original screaming 283ci small-block Chev! The only major change is the swap from 12-slotters to a set of Center Lines.
Impressive stuff, especially when you consider the ute was campaigned regularly at Calder Park, as well as performing some memorable burnouts at the Street Machine Nationals and early Summernats – not to mention numerous interstate trips for car shows and regular cruising in between.
We featured the car way back in the Oct/Nov 1985 issue, but we decided it was high time it got exposed to a whole new generation of fans. Check out the feature – including a stack of super-cool historical images – in the August issue of Street Machine.
