After proving the concept at Street Machine Summernats, it was finally time to unleash Skid Row to the West Aussies at Motorvation 36. Finding the best location for it took a bit of head scratching, but in the end organisers settled on the far-left side of the staging lanes, which was a fairly sensible decision, considering the staging lanes were already part of the cruise route.

Access and visibility for the crowd was pretty good, but the cars in the pits copped a lot of smoke whenever the wind blew in that direction.

The honour of christening Skid Row was handed to Justin Pitsikas from BYE Performance in his new BMW skid car REFINED, and he did a stellar job.

There were a couple of nervous moments. Someone suggested to Dwane Pallentine that Skid Row looked pretty wide, which was all the encouragement Dwane needed.

Turns out it wasn’t wide enough. Oops. Thankfully only minor damage was done and he later went on to win the Pro class skids.

Alarm bells were ringing for the fireys when Jesse Taigel’s PHANTOM Commodore had a massive tyre fire.

SM’s resident burnout expert Flinty said: “It was awesome. It kept the show going during the breaks in the track activity and everyone I spoke with loved it.”

There you have it. Bigger and better next year, maybe with a grandstand for better viewing?
