WEST AUSSIE HOT ROD DEBUTS AT YOKOHAMA HOT ROD & CUSTOM SHOW

Ben Forster's '27 Model T roadster is just one of a strong Aussie-built contingent at the 25th Yokohama Hot Rod & Custom Show, Japan

THE 25th Yokohama Hot Rod & Custom Show, staged by the good folk at Mooneyes was held over the weekend. As usual, there was a massive contingent of Aussies in town to enjoy one of the world’s best indoor car shows, but we also had an Australian-built car to cheer on! Ben Forster of the Cranksters Car Club in West Oz brought his Coupster - a ’27 Model T coupe converted to a roadster. The car has been built in a cracking 60s show rod style, with a V12 Lincoln Zephyr mill as the crowning glory. There were also four Aussie-built bikes on display, making it a pretty impressive effort from Down Under.

Mooneyes _1As usual, the Mooneyes crew organised some outstanding special guest cars to set the tone, starting with the spectacular Moonliner - one of three surviving streamliners built by Robert ‘Jocko’ Johnson. And if that wasn’t enough, another slice of custom culture royalty on show is the Ed Roth-built Orbitron, stunningly restored by Galpin Auto Sports.

Mooneyes -2016_2Sho Kogawa's 1970 Dodge Challenger ‘Magic Powder’ amps the 70s retro vibes to the max with tons of wild airbrushing and super-heavy flake; even on the rear visor!

Mooneyes -2016-3We saw the by Carl Loveless ’32 roadster in action at the Hot Rod Hillclimb last year. Not only is it a bitching car, but has some great history.

We’ll have more from show day coming soon!
