When we featured the car way back in July/August 1991, the EH was the first early V8 Holden to be registered under South Australia’s stringent rego laws. Built by Mark Sanders, the car ran a tough 308, a Toploader four-speed and a Ford nine-inch with a three-link rear end, Spax coil-overs and mini-tubs.
The whole deal went through an exhaustive process to ensure its road-legal status and to stop, handle and go like a demon. It was a pro touring build before the term had been invented.
Since then, the EH has racked up 40,000 miles, including two assaults on Targa Tasmania, multiple Summernats trips, the Dutton Rally, a season of regularity at Mallala and Targa Adelaide. Super-impressive stuff for a road-registered street machine!
For his next trick, Neville and his mate Robert Wann from Midas Australia are subjecting the EH to the Aussie Muscle Car Run. This awesome event raises funds for the Leukaemia Foundation, with this year’s target a whopping $400,000.
The itinerary is awesome. Leaving from the Clipsal 500 on 31 October, the entrants cruise to Bathurst, where they will take part in a super sprint event up Conrod Straight. They’ll also do some time trials at Winton Raceway and compete at the Legends Of The Lakes Hillclimb at Mt Gambier. All up, the cars will cover over 3100km, making the event an awesome test of man and machine.
