We’ve been window shopping once again in the fresh crop of metal on offer at the latest Grays classic car auction – and if you’re after a matching numbers Holden or tough Falcon coupe, then we’ve got good news for you!

Kicking off our picks is the holy grail of VL Commodores, a genuine BT1 turbo. This one looks to be all original, factory fitted with the beefier MX-7 manual five-speed box, a 90-litre fuel tank and has been owned by a retired police officer for the last 30 years.

It’s no surprise that, as we write, bidding is already at $75K and with a reserve still yet to be met you can expect that to climb.

Could this thing crack six figures? Lord help us all.

If you disagree with the notion of a turbo being the holy grail of VLs, then this genuine Walky is probably more your flavor. It has a cool 65,000 kilometres on the odometer and has only had two owners.

The condition is reflected in the price too, with bidding sitting at $160,000 with a reserve still to be met.

We promised you classic Ford coupes, the first being a genuine 1973 XA GT coupe, still carrying its matching numbers 351 donk.

It’s apparently one of just two XA GTs finished in a lick of Stratosphere Grey, and also came factory fitted with AC.

It is at early days in terms of biddinng, sitting at $5,800.

They may have only been fitted with 302s, but there is something cool about the John Goss Special XBs coupes. And in this case, the dashboard has even been signed by the man himself.

Bidding is at $65,000, no doubt well below reserve.

If you’re chasing a classic two-door from the General, then a factory 307 HT Monaro is hard to beat.

This ’69 model underwent a restoration 15 years ago that looks to have stood the test of time really well, but with bidding only at $50k it looks like the reserve it still a fair way off. If you’re after a turn-key classic, it’s a perfect specimen.

It’s not all chrome bumpers either, there are some quality plastic-bumpered Lions up for grabs too.

The Manta has always been a favourite oddball for HSV lovers, primarily for their unique front grille design. This one may have 214,000km ticked over, but a documented service history and a fresh set of Continental boots points to a car that’s been well looked after.

A Manta is a perfect way into a 1990s HSV while standing out from the Clubsport crowd, and with a current bid of $12k (reserve still to be met) it could prove to be a bit of a bargain in the skyrocketing HSV market.

Fancy a landmark Commodore with super low mileage? We all know the Series II VT SS was genesis for Holdens and the legendary LS motor, and this one is finished in the hero colour Tiger Mica and only has 5200km worth of work under its belt.

Values on these things have done a full 180 degrees in recent years, you won’t find VT-VX SS Commodores on Gumtree for $5k anymore. This would have to be the best example we’ve seen outside of a museum, and the bidding reflects that at $20k with a reserve yet to be toppled.

Another significant Holden in the field is this HDT HZ panel van, as it was used as a service vehicle to support Peter Brock’s massive Repco Round Australia rally in the then-new VB Commodore.

Said to be one of three support cars, and the last one still alive – with plenty of HDT history inside and out. It’s also fitted with five-litres of Holden’s finest, so it isn’t exactly a slouch either. Full history on the car here.

Japanese cars are climbing just as rapidly as Aussie metal – so if you want a classic for keeps, you better buy now.

This RX-2 sedan is an Australian delivered version, with a 13B conversion approved for Queensland roads. It does need some work around the edges, but it’s the perfect little cruiser for all those summer cars and coffees. Bidding is already at $20k but there’s no reserve, so all you’ll be battling now is the other rotary-obsessed punters.
