It’s the best day of the freakin’ month, because today is new mag day! The latest is our September issue, and it’s a bloody cracker.

Cubes are king according to Simon Pickrell, whose 544ci Kaase-headed XW Fairmont, SLYXW, graces the cover this month. It’s built to handle, stop and go, and look good doing it!

Kevin Baird’s FX Holden looks like a lightly modded stocker, such is the mastery of the team at Deluxe Rod Shop. It’s actually a comprehensively refined and re-engineered pro tourer, built in a way that is spectacularly sensitive to the original car.

Paul Thomas’s ’67 Muzzy grabbed our attention in the Street Machine Summernats Elite Hall earlier this year. Big Center Line rear hoops and a 403ci Dart mill are noteworthy features, but it’s the attention to detail under the skin that really sets this build apart.

This month we also have a tough, nitrous-huffing HQ Monaro, a snarling Hemi six-powered Val that has conquered Drag Challenge, and a stonking blown and injected VE Commodore Powercruise car from the lads at BG Engines.

We also announce the 16 finalists for Milwaukee Street Machine of the Year for 2022, with voting open right now at this link. It’s one of our toughest fields yet, and it’s up to you to vote for your favourite. You’ll not only be helping decide who wins the most prestigious modified car award in the country, but just for voting, you’ll also go in the draw to win $5000 cash!

We check out some no-prep drag racing action in Sydney at Powercruise Street Outlaws Australia, while Telfo flees a chilly Victoria to soak in the good vibes at Cooly Rocks On and Downunder Beachfest in sunny Queensland.

We also head to the Castlemaine Rod Shop to watch and learn as the team build a bolt-in nine-inch rear end for Broads’s Torana. It’s awesome to see kick-arse car parts still being hand made to this level in 2022, and these boys make it look easy.

Our regulars are firing on all cylinders as well. Our Drag Challenge feature car this month is a sleepy-looking VS ute packing 900 horses; there’s a thumping blown 389-cube LS from BG Engines as our Mill of the Month; and we’ve got Glenn Munday’s HQ SS as our Time Machine.

Yep, there’s plenty of automotive good times packed inside the September Street Machine, so make sure you head out and grab a copy now!
