Video: Problem solving our turbo 1UZ into Lexcen swap

In this episode of Carnage, Scotty gets a furrowed brow from plenty of fitment issues with our V8 Lexcen project

This episode of Carnage involves more progress on our sweet 1UZ V8 Lexcen sleeper project, but this time, the unusual swap really starts to test Scotty’s patience thanks to clearance issues.

Much to our disappointment, the sweet Holley high-ram intake we got from the fellas at The Skid Factory won’t fit under the standard bonnet, and a reverse cowl would kill our sleeper vibes, man.

As such, Scotty was forced to revert to the standard Toyota unit. To make ourselves feel better (and delete a lot of complex Toyota plumbing), we binned the factory throttlebody for a sweet 70mm Proflow replacement.

More clearance trouble came from the steampipe log manifolds we’re using for the turbo conversion. While they fit fine, the exit points for the V-bands go straight into the factory accessories on both sides. Right now, that’s an unresolved issue, but it’ll need to be sorted before we can make any more progress on the turbo plumbing.

Scotty also played around with brake booster combos in the hope of finding a slimmer option to clear the engine, but it was to no real avail. We have now sorted a permanent solution, but you’ll have to wait ’til next week’s episode to see that.

To cap off the episode, we also installed some fuel pumps into our sweet Proflow surge pot, which will get fully plumbed next week to complete the fuel system.
