Auction watch: VL Walkinshaw, HDT Blue Meanie, HQ Monaro GTS coupe

We usually choose one or two hero cars for our previews of the weekly Grays classic car auctions, but this round has so many heavy hitters that it was enough to fill the whole story! If you’re a Holden fan, you’re definitely going to want to keep reading.

All the lots went live on Thursday April 21, and close tonight — Tuesday, April 26.

Genuine Blue Meanies have been hot property on the auction market in recent times, and this one could be another candidate to grab headlines when the hammer falls.

It’s build number 047/500, with just 20,972kms showing from delivery and a swag of documentation. The originality goes as far as the untouched spare wheel and even the original brake pads, so it presents as a true time warp.

Peter Brock’s personal Blue Meanie went viral when it sold for $1million at auction last year, so who knows where this low-km example will end up? It’s already cracked $350,000, several hours of bidding to go! Check out the full listing here.

The Holden homologation specials continue with this 1988 Group A SV Walky, in all-original condition with 103,000km on the clock.

As the custom plates suggest, we’re looking at build number 198, with all the documentation supplied right from its first ownership. Genuine Walkys have been selling for over AU$300,000 in recent years, and this one has passed $240,000 with almost eight hours of bidding left.

Those in the market for a chrome bumper iron lion may dig this ’72 HQ Monaro GTS coupe. It’s a pearler of a thing, sporting the 308-cube mill paired with an auto ‘box for easy cruising.

Both the interior and exterior are in red hot condition, all refurbished to better-than-stock condition.
