  • First and last GTSR coupe
  • Sold to HSV collector in 2017

The only HSV GTSR Coupe ever made is up for sale at Lloyds.

The one-of-one prototype is being offered alongside a trifecta of GTSRs finished in XU3 Yellah. Bidding for the coupe has so far reached $162,000, with four weeks remaining before the hammer falls.

HSV debuted the Monaro-based GTSR Coupe concept at the 2004 Sydney Motor Show as a track-only prospect. It featured a 6.0-litre LS2 good for 335kW, backed by a six-speed manual gearbox, and a raft of racing gear such as an FIA-approved chromoly rollcage and Ohlins adjustable dampers. The full ‘cage, non-ADR parts and a lack of airbags made registration impossible.

Back then, HSV told MOTOR’s David Morley the car would be offered to punters both here and overseas, with a pricetag somewhere between $150,000 and $180,000.

Orders had apparently already been placed by the Malaysian Grand Prix Corporation and the operators of Phillip Island. HSV also said it was gauging interest in a local, one-make GTSR racing series.

Sadly, the first two-door GTSR proved to be the last, suffering the same fate as its HRT 427 predecessor. The coupe fell off the radar for some time after the motor show, but reappeared for sale in 2016 at Dutton Garage.

The HSV collector known as ‘Boomer’ added the car to his collection in 2017, where it joined VS GTSR #001 and #002, a matching XU3 Yellah W1 sedan and ute, and several other high-profile HSVs. It appears those cars were later sold.

Aside from the show circuit, the prototype seems to have done almost no work, save for a handful of Bathurst laps by V8 Supercars hero Mark Skaife. It’s being sold with the original owner’s manual, and several copies of Wheels and MOTOR magazines that featured the car.

While the other GTS-Rs offered at Lloyds are all rarities, the truly one-off nature of the GTSR Coupe makes it a must-have for any completionist with deep pockets. You’ll find the listing here.
