When most people think about what a restomod should look like, images of cars such as a Singer 911, Eagle E-Type, or Icon FJ40 are probably what comes to mind.

But someone on the Gold Coast has decided to do things a little differently, taking a humble 1968 Mercedes-Benz W108 250 S and replacing its drivetrain with that of a modern-day C63 S AMG.

The owner – Emilio – has essentially taken the mechanical innards from a 2017 W205 C63 S AMG and had them fitted (snugly) into the W108’s unassuming body.

Yep, you heard right – this 53-year-old car is running a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.

What’s more, by fitting different intakes and a performance downpipe to AMG’s M177 bent-eight, the result is even more shove than the stock 375kW and 700Nm, with power now said to be 384kW at the rear wheels.

And it’s not just what’s under the bonnet of the current-gen C63 which has made its way into the old-timer sedan.

Emilio has also commissioned the C63’s interior – including the dash, infotainment, steering wheel, and seats – to be fitted in the old W108.

He isn’t afraid of going all out in it either – with videos on the car’s Instagram page, @the_amg_og_, showing the V8 performing big, languid, tyre destroying skids (on track, of course).

The page also shows all the work was done locally in Queensland by Deluxe Body Werx, Maranello Auto Services, and Etuners Brisbane.
