A 1977 Holden LX Torana stolen from a Leeton home has yet to be recovered, almost four months after it was last spotted.

As reported by ABC, the Torana A9X replica sedan with registration number 91358H was taken from Michael Piccolo’s locked garage at around 4.30am on April 30 in an alleged break and enter.

According to police, the car was subsequently towed through the regional New South Wales towns of Temora, Cootamundra and Yass, before being seen on the M7 Motorway around noon.

A long-time admirer of Holden’s Bathurst prowess, Piccolo purchased the brown sedan around two years ago. He told ABC News he “felt really sick” upon learning the car was missing.

“And you sort of go into a bit of a depressed sort of state for a couple of days, and then really cranky.”

As part of the police investigation, two men — a 26-year-old and a 35-year-old — have been arrested in Leeton. Each has been charged with aggravated break, enter and steal commit serious indictable offence – in company – steal greater than $60,000.

The car, however, is still missing. Piccolo’s wife Bronwyn posted a call-out on her Facebook page shortly after the car was taken, which has so far been shared more than 11,000 times.

“All I want at the end of the day is just to get my car back,” Piccolo told ABC.

“And hopefully it’s in one piece.”

According to the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council, 39,400 passenger and light commercial vehicles were stolen nationwide in 2020. The Northern Territory recorded the highest rate of theft, averaging 3.7 thefts per 1000 vehicles.

The Holden VE Commodore is the most-targeted model, followed by the seventh-generation Toyota HiLux and Ford PX Ranger.
