Nissan has confirmed its new Navara Pro plug-in hybrid will arrive in Australia in 2027, developing a preliminary 300kW and 800Nm while retaining a 3500kg braked towing capacity.
Australia and New Zealand will be the first right-hand-drive markets to receive the new model, which will become Nissan Australia’s first plug-in hybrid and the brand’s first electrified ute globally.
Significantly, the Oceania version will differ from the previously announced global specification.
Nissan evaluated both a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol PHEV and a larger 2.0-litre alternative during development. The 2.0-litre was ultimately selected for Australia and New Zealand following testing focused on towing, payload and sustained performance.
It combines the turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. Preliminary combined outputs are 300kW and 800Nm, although these remain subject to final homologation.
A mechanical four-wheel-drive system and differential locks underpin its off-road credentials, while Nissan is targeting approximately 1000kg of payload and 3500kg braked towing capacity.
Four drive modes – Eco, Standard, Sport and Slippery – will be complemented by seven terrain settings covering Standard, Deep Snow, Mud, Sand, Rock, Wading and Expert conditions.

Vehicle-to-Load functionality will also be available, allowing the battery to supply electricity for equipment when camping or working remotely.
Australian development began when the first prototypes arrived in 2025. Five development vehicles have since covered more than 20,000km locally, testing suspension, tyres, driver-assistance systems, differential locks, towing and load performance.
Both leaf-spring and multi-link coil-spring rear suspension arrangements have been evaluated, with the final Australian configuration yet to be announced.

The five-seat dual-cab will also be available with features including a large central touchscreen, digital instrument display, panoramic sunroof and heated and ventilated front seats, depending on grade.
Battery capacity and electric-only driving range remain under wraps and will be announced closer to launch. Final Australian equipment and specifications are also still to be confirmed.
The Navara Pro PHEV will launch locally during 2027, with pricing to be announced nearer its arrival.
