The XPENG L03 will cost Aussies $41,900 before on-roads in both battery-electric and range-extender form when pre-orders open on September 24 as the medium SUV seeks to knock the extremely popular Geely EX5 down a notch or two on the sales charts.
That puts Xpeng’s cheapest and smallest model for Australia roughly on par with the price of the base EX5 and BYD’s Atto 3 Evo, and for that money you get a claimed 440km of range with the base BEV option, the RWD Standard Range variant, or more than 1000km with the PowerX Long Range EREV.

Head further up the range and you can pay $46,900 for the RWD Long Range, or $53,900 for the AWD Performance Ultra flagship, both of which feature all-electric drivetrains.
While the RWD Standard Range runs a 58.3kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, the PowerX EREV teams a 37kWh LFP unit with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that is used exclusively as a generator for the battery. Xpeng claims up to 215km of WLTP range on electric power alone.
The L03’s dimensions come in at 4650mm long, 1920mm wide and 1600mm tall with a 2850mm wheelbase, making it slightly larger than the EX5 and Atto 3, but a tad smaller than BYD’s Sealion 7 and Tesla’s Model Y.
Looks could be a strong selling point for the Xpeng. Its body was put together under the eye of ex-Ferrari exterior design chief JuanMa López, whose skills have given the SUV a sleek and refined appearance that should set it apart in the crowded market segment.
The interior gets a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with voice interaction and the company’s latest XOS 6 operating system, intelligent climate control, ambient lighting in no fewer than 256 colours, 37 storage spaces and safety features including a driver monitoring system, cross-traffic alerts front and rear, parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.
It’s all covered by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty for private owners, and the battery, battery management system, drive motor and intelligent power unit fall under eight-year/160,000km coverage, whichever comes first.
