Geely Australia expects the just-launched all-wheel drive version of its popular Starray to boost sales of the plug-in hybrid medium SUV.
Speaking to assembled media including WhichCar by Wheels at the local launch of the Starray EM-i AWD, the brand’s local boss of product planning and marketing Andrew Tuitahi said he believes the newly launched variant will add around 20 to 30 per cent to the model’s overall sales figures.

“We’re thinking this will come in, give us some incremental volumes, some cannibalised volume from the front-wheel drives,” said Tuitahi. He added that Geely expects the front-wheel drive Inspire variant would likely remain as the sales leader for the model, but that the new AWD Starray should see an uptick for the nameplate across the board.
“We don’t typically confirm our volume targets for any models,” he said. “But we will see, let’s put a number out there, somewhere around 20 per cent, 30 per cent incremental.”
The Geely Starray EM-i has been a sales success for the fledgling brand, which only launched in Australia around 18 months ago. The manufacturer’s second-best selling model has already racked up 7923 sales in 2026, making it one of the most popular plug-in hybrid SUVs in the country.

The just-launched $44,990 Starray AWD now serves as the flagship of the three-model line-up, bringing not only the surety of all-wheel drive grip, but also boosted performance, improved ride and a combined petrol-electric driving range of 1065km. You can read our review of the new AWD Starray here.
The incumbent front-wheel drive models are priced from $37,490 for the Complete and $41,490 for the Inspire, all prices before on-road costs.
