Snapshot
- Shift Control Unit issue forces the recall of Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Kia’s EV6
- Both vehicles ride on the same platform
- Combined 893 units under recall
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are being recalled, with both models hampered by the same issue.
Affecting a total of 578 Hyundai Ioniq 5s and 315 Kia EV6s, a fault with the software in the vehicle’s Shift Control Unit (SCU) may cause the parking pawl to fail, potentially resulting in the car moving when the ‘park’ drive mode is selected.
If this happens, the car could cause damage to property or people around it.

Both manufacturers have asked owners to contact either Hyundai’s Blue Drive dealer network or an authorised Kia dealer to rectify the issue with an SCU software update, free of charge.
For more information on the recalls, contact the Hyundai Customer Care Centre on 1800 186 306 or Kia Customer Care on 131 542 and [email protected]
