Mazda has delivered a major mechanical update for its popular Mazda 3 and CX-30 by introducing a hybrid powertrain into the line-up for both models.

Taken from the MX-30 crossover, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, mild-hybrid engine will now be available in both models when purchased in G20e guise – delivering 114kW and 200Nm to the front wheels through a six-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox.

As well as adding G20e Evolve M variants to the CX-30 and 3 ranges, Mazda has also introduced the SP trim for each model, with the Mazda 3 G25 Evolve SP gaining; black wheels, mirrors, grille and seats. Meanwhile, the CX-30 Touring SP Vision Technology scores similar upgrades, available with the G20, G25 and G25 AWD powertrains.

Earlier this year the Japanese manufacturer announced its intentions to achieve a 25 per cent electric vehicle line-up by 2030, with hybridised versions of its internal combustion engine models providing a stop gap in the meantime.
