BYD’s rapid rise in the Australian new-car market has reached another milestone, with the Chinese maker delivering its 150,000th vehicle less than four years after launching locally in late 2022.
The achievement highlights the growing popularity of electric and plug-in hybrid models, as BYD continues to challenge established manufacturers across several market segments.
The milestone vehicle was a Seal 6 Touring plug-in hybrid wagon (below) delivered to a family in Portland, Victoria, through BYD’s Warrnambool dealership.

The buyer had decided to purchase the vehicle just weeks after her partner took delivery of a Seal Performance electric sedan, giving the household two BYDs in quick succession.
BYD’s Australian expansion has accelerated through a growing model range and an increasingly extensive dealership network, particularly in regional areas where the company sees opportunities for further growth.
The manufacturer expects to have more than 150 sales and service dealerships operating nationally by the end of 2026, with additional locations planned in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
Recent and planned regional locations include Mudgee, Seymour, the Barossa Valley and Rockingham, alongside further Queensland expansion.
BYD Australia chief operating officer Stephen Collins said regional dealerships would remain a priority into 2027, reflecting the company’s efforts to extend its reach beyond metropolitan markets.
Meanwhile, BYD’s premium sister brand Denza is expanding its Australian aftersales network, appointing 17 additional authorised service points to support owners outside major cities.

The new facilities will operate through selected BYD dealerships across six states and territories, supplementing Denza’s existing 18 dedicated locations.
Regional centres include Mackay, Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Geraldton, Bunbury, Albany, Darwin, Orange, Dubbo, Tamworth, Bendigo, Ballarat and Warrnambool.
Depending on their capabilities, facilities will provide routine maintenance, diagnostics, mechanical repairs and selected warranty work. More complex repairs, including high-voltage battery work, will require specialist arrangements.
Denza says it has attracted more than 3500 Australian customers since February, led by its B5 and B8 luxury off-roaders and D9 people-mover.
Further expansion is planned for 2027, including additional dealerships and the arrival of the 850kW Z9GT electric performance car.
