Jeremy Clarkson has ridden a long line of TV winners going back to his first appearance on Top Gear in 1988 and now he has revealed he has another program in mind as he ponders what his future will look like once Clarkson’s Farm is run and done.  

The 66-year-old has just wrapped shooting for the sixth season of the hit Amazon show, which gives viewers an often hilarious inside look at life on his Diddly Squat property near the English town of Chipping Norton.

Speaking at the Royal Television Society London Convention, Clarkson said he was unsure about the future of his farm program, but he didn’t rule out the possibility of a seventh season. He is definitely looking ahead to another project, however.

“We wrapped season six of Clarkson’s Farm yesterday, and season seven is kind of, ‘What are we going to do?’” Clarkson said, before adding that he is keen on “fewer, bigger, better” ideas for a new show.

“We’re currently thinking about what we do after Clarkson’s Farm and it’s going to have to be something bigger to stand out to protect us from this onslaught from [social media content] underneath. It has to be unbelievably ambitious.

“It’s very difficult to make a television show work unless you’re cooking on the moon or doing something incredible, and that’s where I think television has to get bigger, lose scheduling, and get bigger.”

Clarkson’s comments come soon after the official announcement that Top Gear is making a comeback four years after a horror crash left former host and cricket legend Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff scarred for life. 

The return was confirmed by BBC director of entertainment Ed Harvard, who dodged questions about possibilities for the new hosting line-up. It has been rumoured that comedian Jimmy Carr is right in the mix, with Harvard saying, “Jimmy would be a great host.”

Other big names who have been rumoured for a spot include former English rugby star turned TV personality Joe Marler and model Jodie Kidd, who has appeared on the show before and hosted other car-focused programs on British TV.
