Another Chinese automotive brand is preparing to enter Australia’s increasingly crowded electric vehicle market, with Lepas confirming a $47,990 starting price for its first local model, the L6 electric SUV.

Part of the rapidly expanding Chery Group, Lepas will launch with the all-electric L6, positioning the newcomer against an expanding field of Chinese-built electric SUVs competing for Australian buyers.

The $47,990 figure is the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), meaning on-road costs will be additional.

Built on Chery Group’s LEXP electric vehicle architecture, the L6 uses the company’s latest battery technology, although Australian specifications covering battery capacity, motor outputs, driving range and charging performance have yet to be detailed.

Exterior features confirmed for the Australian market include 19-inch machined alloy wheels, acoustic glass for the front doors and puddle lights designed to illuminate the ground when entering or exiting the vehicle.

Lepas has also flagged a technology-focused interior, although further details of the infotainment system, cabin equipment and driver assistance features are still to be announced.

The L6 will be offered in five exterior colours: Crimson Purple, Light Speed Orange, Khaki White, Bamboo Grey and Carbon Crystal Black, with the latter available by pre-order only.

As part of its launch campaign, Lepas will waive the usual additional cost of premium paint for a limited period.

Lepas Australia boss Brad Ryan said the L6 represented the first step in establishing the brand locally, with further information about the vehicle and its ownership arrangements to follow.

The new arrival adds another name to Chery Group’s growing Australian presence, joining an increasingly competitive market where established manufacturers and newer Chinese brands are fighting for electric SUV sales.

Australian buyers will be able to test drive the L6 at Lepas dealerships from early November, when further details about the vehicle’s local specification and availability are expected to emerge.
