The 2026 Mazda MX-5 is getting a safety boost, new paint option and a revised cabin for the top-of-the-range GT RS, but the upgrades have increased prices by $1950 across the board – with the flagship variant setting customers back an extra $4950.

Orders are now open for the updated icon, with deliveries to begin this month. The base-level G20 Roadster is now $44,950 before on-roads thanks to that $1950 jump, which also applies to the Roadster GT in manual and auto, plus the RF GT manual and auto. The big $4950 increase applies to the G20 Roadster GT RS manual.

Mazda is justifying the extra cost by adding lane-keep assist across the range, with the autonomous emergency braking system now able to to detect the presence of cyclists as well as other vehicles and pedestrians. Lane-keep assist is now standard across the range, too.

The GT RS now gets lightweight Recaro bucket seats trimmed in nappa leather as standard equipment, with Alcantara trim added to the instrument panel, door trim, console lid and centre console.

There’s also an all-new premium Zinc Green Metallic body colour that Mazda says has been in “high demand” from customers. Green was last offered on the MX-5 a decade ago, with the brand revealing it was inspired by the colour and texture of zinc chromate primer.

The rest of the palette remains unchanged with Snowflake White Pearl Mica, Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Jet Black Mica, Machine Grey Metallic and Aero Grey Metallic.

There’s no change to the drivetrain for the updated 2026 model, with the range still powered by Mazda’s naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder mill, which produces 135kW and 205Nm that’s fed to the rear rubber via a six-speed auto or manual tranny.
