Porsche has released the grand strategy that will take it through to 2035, promising a raft of new products and technologies including a new halo supercar that will top the legendary 911. The Sportwagenschmiede 35 plan – that’s “sports car forge” – also reveals that the 718’s future is 100 per cent electric.
The news comes as Porsche teases the Mission S concept car in a new video, which you can see here. While the clip offers next to no detail on the car, just a succession of images that are blurred or in extreme close-up, it’s expected to be a successor to the 918 Spyder. The carmaker has announced that it is working on a “potential mid-engined sports car platform for the future”.

Porsche CEO Michael Leiters offered a bit more information when he told Evo magazine, “We are developing a super sports car platform, and we intend to use it as the basis for a new mid-engined car, a car that will sit clearly above the 911.” Things should become clearer on October 15, when the Mission S is scheduled for a full reveal.
Leiters’ comment that the upcoming hypercar will top the 911 is significant as the marque has never announced this with previous halo cars like the 918 Spyder and Carrera GT. It also hints that the new model will compete with rivals like Ferrari’s 849 Testarossa.
Porsche’s Mission X concept (pictured) from 2023 featured a purely electric drivetrain, but the rumour mill points to an internal combustion powerplant for the Mission S. Some reports are even hinting at a flat-eight.

Sadly, the Sportwagenschmiede 35 plan has quashed any hopes of more ICE-powered versions of the 718, making it plain that the model will be electric-only from here on out. The first full year of production is scheduled to start in 2028.
The 911 range is up for expansion under the strategy, with Porsche saying the line-up will “be strengthened with highly emotive 911 derivatives”, in addition to the marque launching “at least one brand-defining product every year” by 2030.
The brand is also looking at adding an SUV to its range in Europe’s D segment, which covers large family cars. That SUV would be positioned above the Cayenne if it comes to fruition.
Sportwagenschmiede 35 also confirms that Porsche is “sticking with its three-pronged powertrain approach”, which entails investments in internal combustion and PHEV units, as well as “the next generation of battery technology”.
