Forget the 6.0-litre twin-turbo Mercedes-AMG V12 and even the significantly revised bodywork – the most noteworthy, incredible thing about Pagani’s new Huayra 70 Anima is its paint job, which has given new meaning to the term “over the top” by being infused with diamond dust.
Revealed to the world at the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas last weekend, the Anima (that’s “soul” in Italian) is the third in Pagani’s Grandi Complicazioni collection, following on from the Derecho and Trionfo. It may as well have been called the Pagani Excess All Areas because every square inch is amped up to the nth degree.

First, the relatively boring bits. That Mercedes engine makes 644kW and 1099Nm, all of which is fed to the road exclusively through the rear tyres via a seven-speed manual transmission.
The bodywork is a bit sharper and more angular than what we’ve come to expect from the marque, featuring more detail and creases in the panels. There are new bumpers and a unique rear wing and diffuser, not to mention the six-pipe exhaust system, which is coated in white ceramic material.
Solid-milled aluminium components with a silver anodised finish and exposed carbon fibre feature on the exterior, but that duco is the headline act. The dual-tone finish in Custom Light Blue and Custom Inky Blue is “enhanced by diamond dust for unique luminosity”, according to Pagani, which sure makes a change from the finely ground aluminum particles that go into the metallic paint of lesser vehicles.
And if that’s not enough to pique the interest of the billionaire class, maybe the primary stripe will be. It’s made of hand-applied platinum leaf that’s been “manually flowered to achieve a distinctive pattern”.

The museum-worthy extravagance continues inside the cabin, where the steering wheel and gear knob also get the diamond-dust treatment. Blue carbon-fibre accents feature on the seats, which are wrapped in milk-coloured leather, and graphic details have been inspired by the flags of Argentina and Las Vegas.
Pagani special projects head Lorenzo Kerkoc said the brand worked with the Anima’s owner for a year to nail the brief, and prove that the Huayra still has a lot to offer despite the model first going on sale in 2012.
