The snow may have been gently falling outside, but this year’s New York motor show opened with a bang as car makers from around the globe showed off hot new metal.

Leading the charge was Mazda with a new, lighter and faster MX-5, while Land Rover previewed an entire family of new Discovery models.

Of the local heroes, both Ford and GM drew big crowds with a special 50th anniversary Mustang and the fastest chop-top Corvette ever.
