Formula 1: 1992 Ferrari F92A replica found in Italian barn up for auction

A replica 1992 Ferrari F92A Formula 1 car has been listed for auction after it was discovered in a barn in Italy last year.

The racer, which is being auctioned through Collecting Cars, was built by Italian enthusiast Gianni Pascal, who reportedly crafted it with the assistance of Ferrari engineers that worked on the real F29A.

Assembled in the small Italian village of Perosa Argentina, the development of the replica was assisted through the use of genuine spare parts – including the front and rear carbon fibre wings.

The car was completed in 1996, following four years of construction, but was quickly placed in long-term storage after Pascal fell ill. It was discovered in an Italian barn in 2021.

Powered by a 2.0-litre ‘Twin Cam’ engine sourced from Alfa Romeo, it is matched with a manual transmission. The vehicle also includes a replica dashboard, Momo steering wheel, suede-trimmed seats with a genuine Sabelt four-point harness, and Avon Historic F1 tyres.

To prepare the replica for sale, the drivetrain was recommissioned, and the body was cleaned and inspected to ensure it can start and run.

The original Rosso Corsa paintwork has remained in place with minor damage, while the listing claims the engine is running and the clutch not working.

Developed for use in the 1992 Formula 1 season, the Ferrari F92A was designed by Jean-Claude Migeot, a French aerodynamicist and aeronautical engineer. It featured a unique double-floored design, which enabled it to produce a competitive level of downforce.

However, this advantage was compounded by the Ferrari V12 engine that suffered from excessive blow-by.

The Ferrari F92A was replaced by the F93A for the 1993 Formula 1 season.
