Volkswagen Australia is recalling examples of its 2019 Touareg SUV over a problem with the tailgate.
There are 40 cars affected by the issue.
According to the Department for Infrastructure, which issued the notice, if the tailgate is opened and manually pushed up too far the pre-compressed coil springs may become detached “with great force” from the boot strut – and could cause “significant injuries” to anyone close by.

A list of VINs for the affected vehicles is available here.
Owners of Touaregs under recall can contact their nearest VW dealer to organise a repair free of charge, or call 1800 504 076 for further information.
