GWM has confirmed its new Haval H7 will go on sale in Australia in mid-October, with the mid-size SUV set to start below $50,000 drive-away.

Shown publicly at the Everything Electric show in Sydney, the H7 will expand GWM’s growing Haval SUV range alongside the existing H6 and H6GT and upcoming Jolion Max.

Rather than following the rounded and increasingly aerodynamic shapes adopted by many new SUVs, the H7 takes a more traditional approach. Its upright profile, squared-off body and rugged exterior detailing give it a noticeably different appearance from the H6, despite competing in the same broad mid-size SUV category.

Two electrified powertrains will be offered from launch: a conventional hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. Both will use versions of GWM’s Hi4 technology, which combines electrified propulsion with all-wheel drive.

Full Australian powertrain specifications have yet to be announced, however, with GWM holding back details including outputs, battery capacities, electric driving range and fuel consumption until closer to the vehicle’s October introduction.

The H7 will give GWM another entrant in one of Australia’s most competitive new-car categories, but with a more rugged positioning than the H6. The company says it has been developed to combine family SUV practicality with the ability to handle a broader variety of road and off-road conditions.

The decision to offer both hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions also continues GWM’s push towards electrification across its Australian range, rather than relying on a single powertrain strategy.

Importantly, GWM has confirmed the H7 will start at less than $50,000 drive-away, although exact pricing and the number of grades available remain unannounced.

The newcomer arrives as GWM continues to broaden the Haval line-up. In addition to the H6, H6GT and H7, the company is preparing to introduce the larger Jolion Max, giving the Chinese manufacturer increasingly overlapping options across the SUV market.

Final Australian specifications, equipment levels, model grades and pricing for the Haval H7 are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

The new H7 will officially join the Australian GWM range in mid-October 2026.
