The Australian Government's Green Vehicle Guide has been given a makeover.

A project of the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Green Vehicle Guide compares factors such as the fuel efficiency, emissions and running costs, with all light vehicles sold locally since 2004 listed.

It also provides estimations on annual fuel and charging costs, charge times and rankings of Australia's most efficient vehicles.

“To make greener choices, Australians need to be provided with clear and accurate information," said Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King.

“The Green Vehicle Guide...aligns with the Government’s commitment to developing Australia’s first National Electric Vehicle Strategy, making electric cars cheaper for families who want them and reducing emissions.

“Green vehicles, including electric and fuel-efficient cars, are overall cheaper to run and maintain.”

According to the guide, the recently-axed Hyundai Ioniq EV boasts the lowest annual charging cost of any electric vehicle (based on an average of 14,000km travelled), while almost all variants of the best-selling Toyota HiLux emit higher than average tailpipe C02 emissions.
