Nissan's new Z is here, and we've driven it. We've also undertaken a massive 'lifestyle test' of Australia's utes – no big deal.

It's finally here, we've driven it, and the news is good.

Nissan's box-fresh 298kW Z coupe finally lands here in Australia and we get behind the wheel to deliver the early verdict on both the manual and the automatic versions of what could well be 2022's most eagerly awaited sports car.

We also take Hiroshi Tamura, Nissan's godfather of the Z and the GT-R, out for some terrible ramen and discuss how the new Z has been developed, why it's never been flung around the Nordschleife in anger, and how telling a few alternative facts managed to get the Z project over the line with Nissan's top brass.

Elsewhere, we've lined up every dual-cab ute worth its salt and pitched them into a megatest for the ages.

Some of the results may well surprise you, but it's fair to say this pretty much boils down to a tag contest between the V6 and biturbo versions of the new Ford Ranger versus everything else. Pick up a copy of the magazine to see which is the last ute standing.

Not sold on electric vehicles?

Andy Enright takes Mercedes-AMG's EQS 53 and charges it on the juice from Australia's filthiest power station, crunching the numbers to figure out whether juicing your EV up on brown coal is an environmental catastrophe.

We wave goodbye to the Ford Focus ST, run the Lamborghini Gallardo under the Modern Classic lens and welcome a Ford Escape ST-Line PHEV into the Wheels garage.

There's a stack more but we don't want to issue too much in the way of spoilers.
