The first model from the reborn Alpina brand has been spotted undergoing high-speed testing, with the new BMW 7 Series-based limousine promising a blend of effortless performance and exceptional luxury.
First glimpses of the next-generation Alpina flagship reveal a heavily disguised prototype undergoing high-speed testing in Italy ahead of the luxury performance brand’s relaunch. Expected to revive the B7 nameplate, the new model will sit near the top of BMW‘s passenger car range, combining the imposing proportions of the 7 Series with bespoke styling, a more luxurious interior and a significantly upgraded V8 engine.

The prototype was photographed at the Nardo high-speed testing facility, where BMW has been refining the car’s performance and handling characteristics. Despite the camouflage, several distinctive Alpina design elements were visible, including 20-inch forged alloy wheels inspired by previous models and four oval exhaust outlets.
The prototype also featured yellow daytime running lights, while the finished car is expected to receive exclusive paint colours, unique exterior trim and a modern interpretation of Alpina’s traditional badging.
Under the bonnet, the B7 is tipped to use a modified version of BMW’s 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8, which produces 420kW in the M760 xDrive. Alpina’s version is expected to deliver even more power, although official figures remain under wraps. Testing has reportedly revealed a potential top speed of approximately 305km/h.
However, outright performance won’t be the new model’s only selling point. BMW Alpina is embracing a philosophy of ‘Speed, not Sport’, differentiating its vehicles from BMW M models by prioritising effortless acceleration, refinement and long-distance comfort rather than outright track performance.
Engine and transmission software will be recalibrated to provide smoother power delivery, while specially developed tyres and revised suspension settings should further distinguish the B7 from its donor vehicle. The prototype is also expected to retain the 7 Series’ air suspension and rear-wheel steering, potentially supplemented by an active anti-roll system.

Inside, buyers can anticipate an even more lavish cabin than the already luxurious 7 Series, with premium leather upholstery, distinctive wood finishes and exclusive detailing.
The B7 won’t be the only vehicle to receive the Alpina treatment, either. BMW insiders have indicated that an Alpina version of the updated X7 SUV is planned for 2027, also featuring V8 power and unique styling. That model would compete with the Mercedes-Maybach GLS and Range Rover SV in the ultra-luxury SUV market.
While Alpina previously offered performance versions of smaller BMW models, the brand’s new direction suggests it will concentrate on more expensive vehicles rather than returning to its broader line-up.
Australian availability and pricing have yet to be confirmed, but the B7 is expected to command a substantial premium over conventional 7 Series variants. The big question is whether BMW can preserve Alpina’s distinctive character as it takes the specialist marque into a new era.
